J, Physiol. 2 17(6) : I6 194622, I969.-Thermocouples were implanted chronically in the fetal brain and maternal aorta respectively of 1 I pregnant Dorset and Columbian ewes, at stages between the 122nd and 139th days of gestation. In six apparently unstressed ewes, with good appetites, that carried fetuses seen dr felt to move actively in utero and found to be alive at delivery, the fetal brain temperature was 0.4-0.8 C higher than the maternal blood. This temperature difference increased in some animals shortly before they delivered, The fetal brain temperature remained higher than that of the maternal blood during a fever induced by the injection of a pyrogen into the ewe. Death of the fetus in utero, judged by the absence of fetal activity and established by its subsequent delivery dead, appeared to be correlated with a change in the record of the temperature difference which included its reversal during normal oscillations in the temperature of the maternal blood,

OBJECTIVE This study investigates the validity of transabdominal pulse oximetry using a sheep fetal hypoxia model with fetal arterial hemoglobin saturation. METHODS Four pregnant ewes were anaesthetized and cannulated through the brachial artery to measure direct arterial blood saturation, SaO(2). Next, the transabdominal pulse oximeter was used to measure indirect measurement of the arterial...
متن کاملThe impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy on fetal brain development
The development of the brain as the most complex structure of the human body is a long process that begins in the third week of pregnancy and continues until adulthood and even until the end of life (1). Human brain myelination begins one to two months before birth in the visual system and eventually lasts until the age of two in other sensory systems and then the motor systems (4). Processes a...

متن کاملI-46: Obstetrical Doppler
Accurate assessment of gestational age, fetal growth, and the detection of fetal and placental abnormalities are major benefits of sonography. Color Doppler can be used to assist in the identification of vascular architecture, detection of vascular pathology and visualization of blood flow changes associated with physiologic processes and disease states. The clinical applications of obstetrical...
